::TIPS::  Packaging your Freight Shipment
The packaging of your freight is essential for the safety of your shipment during transit. All of the major national freight carriers require your LTL (less than a truckload) items to be in some type of packing. Whether you prefer to position your item on a pallet or skid, producing a box out of cardboard, or placing your item in a crate, it does not usually* matter as long as your item is protected and completely covered. If your freight arrives for shipment poorly packaged, the freight carrier may charge a repacking fee and even rare occasions, they will refuse to transport it.

Packaging of item is essential so your load does not get misplaced or damaged. Just like anything mailed through a parcel service, such as the United States Postal Service, freight shipments expect packaging as well. Keep in mind that the more effective your item is packaged, the less likely a chance for your shipment to be damaged. It is also possible that if your shipment is packaged inadequately, the freight carrier can deny damage claims.

If you do not wish to package your item, we can always get a partial truck or find a crating/packaging service local to your location. These options are all additional fees. Just ask your personal freight agent.

Guidance in Packaging Your Shipment:
Crate—The best option for shipping your freight —CRATES.  Plywood crates protect the best and can be purchased in multiple sizes.

Skids—Usually you can get pallets from local shops that do not reuse their pallets and dispose of them away i.e  Hardware stores, Grocery stores, Office Supply stores, etc.

Cardboard—New boxes are considered the best choice because they are sturdier and provide more stability to your shipment. The alternate option to paying for boxes is getting or finding used ones. Normally you can find used cardboard in Cardboard Only Recycle Bins at the back of many stores and shopping plazas. Many retail stores will provide boxes complimentary. If you choose this method, find a box that completely covers your item and secure it with extra shipping tape.

Cling Wrap—Home Depot offers plastic stretch tape at an economical cost to consumers. Cling wrap and Tape together make a secure extra layer of packaging.

Not have the ability to package the item yourself? FreightNShipping can guide! Just ask your personal freight agent for some assistance.

Need your item crated? Sometimes local scooter shops will give them away for free. All motorcycles that are transferred by any major freight carrier ensure all motorcycles, dirtbikes, ATVs, etc. to be crated for transportation.

*Some items require a specific type of packaging in order for a carrier to pick up the item. This can be at the discression of the terminal or to the carrier specific. Ask your agent to verify with the carrier if you are unsure if they will accept your freight as is.
